War Zone- Week 4 Tactics of the Enemy vs. Strategies of the Believer (Fear Part 1)

The tactic of the enemy we will be studying in the next 3 lessons is fear. Merriam Webster online dictionary defines fear as: an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger; anxious concern.   There are many things that can cause fear in our lives. We will be digging into the Word to take a closer look at the first two of seven common fears that Christians face today.    First, Fear of Man.   Example 1: Peter had been called by Jesus to follow him and be his disciple. Peter had willingly followed, had traveled with, learned from, and ministered with Jesus. For three years Peter lived in constant communion with Christ. He had seen the dead raised, the blind receive sight, the lame walk.... He had been with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration. He had even cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant when they came to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. But when push came to shove and his back was against a wall, so to...

War Zone- Week 3 Tactics of the Enemy vs. Strategies of the Believer (Doubt)

Today we will be looking at another tactic of the enemy: Doubt  Merriam Webster online dictionary defines doubt as: to call into question the truth.  As I was studying to write this lesson, I came across a teaching on John the Baptist that opened my understanding on this topic in great depth.  I want us to look at some facts about John the Baptist and then take a close look at the moment when he expressed doubt in the Messiah-ship of Christ.  We know from the Gospel accounts that John was chosen to be to forerunner for Christ.  God promised a priest named Zachariah that he and his elderly wife Elizabeth would have a son.  He was to live a set apart life and before he was born, he was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:15).  We next hear about him at the age of approximately 30 in Matthew 3:1-2, In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the desert in the country of Judea. He said, “Be sorry for your sins and turn from them! The holy nation of he...

War Zone- Week 2 Tactics of the Enemy vs. Strategies of the Believer (Fatigue)

This week we will begin looking at the tactics that the enemy uses against us and the strategies we can use to defeat them!!  We will begin with fatigue.  Note: not all fatigue is spiritual, yet all fatigue can affect our spiritual well-being.  Use wisdom in distinguishing the causes of fatigue in your life.    There are two causes of spiritual fatigue that we will look at in this study: Weariness in doing good, and loss of first love.  First, weariness in doing good.   This is illustrated in the life of Moses. Numbers chapter 11 opens with the people of Israel complaining and whining, God's anger being kindled, and fire falling and consuming some of the people on the outskirts of the camp. We see here that Moses interceded for the people and God stopped the fire. However, in verse four, we see that the people again began to grumble, and this time they were saying, “Who is going to give us meat to eat?” They then began reminiscing about the “good ...

War Zone- Week 1 Know Your Enemy!

As I have been seeking the Lord about what to study in this new season, I keep coming back to the idea of spiritual warfare.  Whether we like it or not, we are in the middle of a spiritual war zone.  The enemy of our souls is out to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10).  We know that in the heavenlies, meaning not heaven, where we will spend eternity, but the spiritual realm, there is a war being waged between the angels of heaven and the fallen angels/demons over the dominion of earth. We also know that those demonic spirits have already been defeated by Christ.   Colossians 2:14-15, He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all—our sins, our stained soul—he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation. Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the p...
