Overcomers
Sunday definitely wins out as best day of my week! I love fellowshipping with other believers, worshipping our amazing Savior. And I love feeding on the Word through spiritual meals prepared by anointed men and women of God.
Monday is the second best day of my week! It’s the first day I get to apply the new spiritual food I received on Sunday. The beginning of another amazing week of faith, growth, and service!
However, it is also the enemy of our souls favorite day as well. It’s the day he begins a fresh, new attack to either steal, kill, or destroy (John 10:10) the food I’ve received, the joy rekindled, the hope restored, and the refreshing I bathed in on Sunday.
Steal: “To take and carry away feloniously, as the personal goods of another. To constitute stealing or theft, the taking must be felonious, that is, with an intent to take what belongs to another, and without his consent.”
Kill: “To deprive of life.”
Destroy: “To put an end to; to annihilate a thing or the form in which it exists.”
How does our enemy accomplish this? Through our thoughts and words.
First, He gets us to focus on what we see, feel, and hear.
He prompts our minds to dwell on how unfair our boss is, how miserable the weather is, how short the weekend was, etc.
He entices us to worry by pointing out all the ways things can go wrong.
He encourages us to doubt that we’ve heard from God or that He will keep His promises to us.
He reminds us of past failures.
Secondly, he pushes us to speak/declare death through our giving voice to all our jumbled, negative thoughts. He often places well meaning people in our path who encourage us in our pity party, or who ask doubt-filled questions that egg on our already over taxed emotions, doubts, and fears.
When we speak these negative thoughts out into the atmosphere we are giving them life. We’ve just invited and empowered the enemy to steal, kill, and destroy the work God has been accomplishing in our lives and the lives of those we love.
Whatever his tactic we can resist and fight back!!!
There are numerous weapons at our disposal but I’ll only list a few that directly combat the battles I’ve mentioned.
1. When you're tempted to complain: REJOICE "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4 (NIV)
2. When you're tempted to worry: PRAY "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
3. When you're tempted to doubt: TRUST "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not depend on your own understanding; Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
4. When you're tempted to speak negatively: SPEAK LIFE "A man’s stomach will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; He will be satisfied with the consequence of his words. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it (talking) and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words." Proverbs 18:20-21 (AMP)
James 4:7 tells us, “So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.” (AMP)
I’m not saying I have always handled these attacks correctly. A miss step isn’t the end. It’s the opportunity to pick ourselves off, dust off our bum, repent, and start moving forward again! Today I am declaring that through the Power of our Resurrected Savior WE WILL WIN THESE BATTLEStoday, this week, this year!
