Special Edition: What Atmosphere are You Creating? Life or Death?
This morning as I was reading in Genesis 1, I had only made it to verse 4 when I heard the Lord ask, “How did I create?”
My response was, “Through your words, Lord.”
His reply, “That is why your words are so important. They are a creative force, speaking things into the spirit realm. Your words create whether you recognize it or not.”
Negative, doubt filled words create a negative atmosphere that will impact everything and everyone you encounter. Everything you touch will be affected by the atmosphere your words create.
In the cartoon Peanuts Cartoons, Pigpen stirs up a dust cloud everywhere he goes. The atmosphere around him is full of dust and the air is impure. The same holds true in our lives. Negative words lead to death. Even though we cannot see it, those words are bringing a slow death to everything we touch.
Constantly negative Christians often wonder why things, “Never go well for me.” It is their words! God told us in Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. (AMPC).
It’s like a farmer planting weed seeds and then waiting for a wheat harvest. He will reap what he sowed. We will too. Galatians 6:8 says, For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (AMPC)
Webster’s online dictionary defines sow as: to set in motion or to spread abroad.
The Greek words speirō and diaspeirō (used in Galatians 6:8) mean to be scattered or dispersed.
When we sow, though our words, negative, bitter, angry, offensive, offended, or harmful seeds into the atmosphere, we will reap those negative things. Genesis 12:1a, The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed according to their own kinds and trees bearing fruit in which was their seed, each according to its kind. (AMPC). This is how God created things to work; we reap, in kind with what we sow.
However, if we speak life, peace, joy, hope, blessing, abundance… we will sow an atmosphere that produces those types of crops in our lives.
Successful businessmen like John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Donald Trump, and Elon Musk did not become successful by speaking doubt, fear, and defeat. They did not see themselves as weak, unsuccessful, or incompetent. They saw themselves successful, they spoke words of success even before they made one dollar, creating an atmosphere in which they could grow and thrive into the men they became. Even if you do not have a high opinion of any of these men, you have to admit that they seemed to find the “recipe” for success – their words!!!!!
The principles of the Word work for both the ungodly and the godly alike. Matthew 5:45b says, For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. Nowhere in the word does it say that the power of life and death are only in the tongue of Christ followers. It is a law of nature (God) that he sent into motion before he even began to speak creation into being.
As I was thinking though all God was showing me, He dropped this into my spirit, “My people must begin to see themselves well, free, prosperous, successful, victorious, as the head not the tail, and as kings and priests. They must use their words to agree with MY WORD and declare those things ‘that are not’ (visible with the eyes of flesh) as ‘though they were’ (visible with the eyes of faith/the spirit).”
Today let me challenge us to take a hard look at the atmosphere we are creating. Are our words creating an atmosphere of life or are they creating an atmosphere of death? Is our life yielding fruit of love, joy, peace, abundance….., or are we finding our harvest is fear, doubt, failure, loss….? The choice is ours. We get to choose what we plant! As we read in Galatians 6:8, we reap what we sow.
