The Limitless Love of God Week 6: Love Wants You!!

Think of this, the Supreme Ruler, Creator, Sustainer, and Designer of the universe, the One Who always was, is, and always will be, the One who can have anything He desires – wants you!!!

We have probably all seen the image from war time posters of “Uncle Sam” pointing his finger and the caption says, “Uncle Sam Wants You.” Uncle Sam wants men and women to serve in the defense of our nation.  Men and women who will give the ultimate sacrifice – their life for our freedom.

Everyone wants something from us. I can only speak as a woman here…

Our husbands want a well-run home and our respect.

Our children want love, attention, food, clothing, security, etc.

The IRS wants our money.

Our employer wants production.

Our friends want a listening ear.

Our…. the list is endless.

None of these things are wrong.  As humans living on planet Earth, in homes, in communities… there are naturally things we need to do, hats we need to wear, roles we need to fill. These are all a part of life in a flesh suit (human body).

However, often, these pressures feel too heavy. Sometimes there are those who demand more than their share from us.  Those who take but never give.  Like Uncle Sam, they demand more that we have to give.

Now picture this poster – an ugly cross, a broken body, and a crown of thorns, and this caption, “Love Wants You”.

The King of Kings wants you.  He doesn’t want your service or your sacrifice, he wants you!

He makes no demands.  He paid for your freedom, he defends your heart, he sacrifices so you can just be.

Be redeemed

Be free

Be secure

Be victorious

Be blessed

Be valued

Be fulfilled

Be prosperous

Be loved

When God envisioned what he really wanted, his desire was for fellowship, intimacy, relationship. He already had angels whose role was that of service.  He wasn’t looking for more servants.  He was looking for friends; he was looking for family.

Picture with me for a moment if you will…

You have the ability to have and do whatever you want.  You can speak anything into existence at any time.  You have servants to wait on your every desire. You live in the most lavish palace. Lush beauty is at every turn.  You don’t just possess and feel love, you ARE LOVE!

But you are alone.  I don’t mean there are no other beings around, but there is no one like you.  No one capable of giving and returning love like you can/do.  No one with the free will to choose to love you.

This is a simplistic view of where God was before he created man.  While the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit had each other (and this is beyond my comprehension!) God desired more. Does he need us?  If we are looking at this from a human perspective – NO, he is totally complete, whole, fully self-sufficient, and self- sustaining.

If we are looking at this from a perspective of love – YES, he needed/wanted/desired those upon whom he could lavish his great love, those who would choose to love him in return.

God’s original design, what he saw in his imagination before creation was not what we see today.  His intention and plan was for Adam and Eve, who were created prefect, placed in a perfect environment, and clothed with the very glory of God, to be fruitful and multiply – to fill the earth and govern it.  To reign over all of creation (Genesis 1).

The big picture was for the entire earth to be a massive Eden.  A place where God could dwell with mankind.  A place where he could share intimacy, close familiarity or fellowship with men and women. A place and a people with whom to share his love.

Sadly, Adam and Eve chose to disobey the only command/requirement God gave and sin entered the picture.

The best definition for sin I have heard is; doing anything that hurts us or someone else God loves.  A more theological definition might be; transgression of the law of God and rebellion against God. Ultimately, it comes back to the breaking of our love relationship with the Father.

Again, this was not God’s original design.  However, he was not surprised by it either. In his love, he already had a redemption plan in place.  A plan to restore us to intimacy and fellowship with himself.

The first issue after the fall was pride and rebellion that entered the earth.  This is seen in Genesis 4 where Cain and Abel the sons of Adam and Eve each brought an offering to God.  Abel’s heart attitude was right and is offering was received by God.  Cain’s heart attitude was wrong, and his offering was not received by God.  Abel brought his best, Cain did not.  Pride and rebellion led Cain to give less than his best.

Next in Genesis 6, we see that the wickedness of mankind had grown to the degree that God was sorry that he ever made mankind (Genesis 6:5-6).  God chose to destroy the earth by flood, preserving the only righteous man, Noah and his family.

Fast forward 100+ years, no one knows for certain how long, however, we once again see the wickedness of man upon the earth.  Men in their pride and rebellion began to build a tower to reach to heaven to make a name for themselves.  God once again intervened and confused the languages so that the people could not understand each other and thus they were separated and scattered across the earth.

God then chose one man, Abram, later called Abraham, to be the father of the family line through whom the redeemer would one day come.  I believe from reading the Word, that God had to wait to send Jesus until mankind had fully seen that they could not behave or be righteous on their own.

God gave the law to demonstrate that on our own mankind cannot live up to His holy standard.  After trying for generation after generation the depth of our depravity increased and our lack became more obvious.

Galatians 4:4-5 tells us, But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.

Throughout all the years between the fall and the birth of Christ, God worked to have fellowship with mankind.  In every generation, he had some with whom he could share a measure of intimacy, but that was not his desire.  His desire was to restore mankind to his original plan; fellowship, friendship, family.  Because he is holy, he could not walk with mankind as he desired.  He had to make a way for us to be reunited with him, a way for him to share his limitless love with us and for us to share ours with him.  Jesus was the Redemption Plan from before the beginning of creation!

As I was praying before I began to write this, God told me that he will have a Bride without spot or wrinkle because he paid too high a price to stop short!

You are that Bride!!!

You are God’s desire!!!

Love Wants You!!!!
